Chairmans message for the 9th December, 2019 UN Anti-Corruption Day

In an effort to highlight the negative impact of corruption on economic development and government stability the United Nations General Assembly in 2003 designated 9th December as the United Nations International Anti-Corruption Day and it is celebrated annually. The aim was to avoid the threats posed by corruption and the theme for this year is "United Against Corruption for Development, Peace and Security".

This day showcases the role of the United Nations' Convention Against Corruption in preventing further corruption with highlights activities such as Musicals, plays, keynote speeches etc that focus on the theme in order to drive the message home. In the same vein, an expert in the area of anti-corruption from the Commonwealth Secretariat will be our keynote speaker on this occasion.

The day also presents an opportunity for people around the world to unite in the fight against corruption and seriously reflect on the negative effects of corruption and our behaviours as well as ethics. If there is a need for a change in attitude and mind set, so be it. You are all invited to stand with the Anti-Corruption Commission Seychelles (ACCS) in this fight and re-affirm our commitment to eradicate this vice. For fighting Corruption is not just an aspect of good governance. It's self-defence and patriotism. I wish you very fruitful celebrations.
